A recent study from IDC/TXT forecasts that the Internet of Things (IoT) market in the EU will amount to more than one trillion euros in 2020. The innovation potential of the IoT will however not be delivered without a vibrant ecosystem, where common platforms and standards are used across a number of different application domains. Future Intelligence, as aproud contributor to this ecosystem was invited by DG CONNECT Directorate “Net Futures” to attend a one day workshop in Brussels, on 4 November 2015, to explore how common reference architectures could be the first milestone in that context. The Standardisation Workgroup (WG3) of the Alliance of Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) has worked to analyse emerging IoT architectures and identify the biggest challenges, like semantic interoperability. The workshop will present these findings of the AIOTI work on landscape analysis, a definition of a high-level architecture and semantic interoperability between objects and systems. The findings of the workshop will support possible proposers in the H2020 research funding call for IoT.
